Grade 2 Chronicles

01 December, 2022

We can’t believe how fast November has flown by!  It has been wonderful getting to know you and your children.  The second graders have been busy since the start of term 2.  Last week the class had their first Math test for term 2.  I am very proud of them as they all did very well.  We also started working on our first writing unit and are working hard to become better writers, spellers, and readers.
We have also started new units in Social Studies, Health, Art & Craft, and Science.  We are especially excited about our Science classes as we are now learning about “Weather”.  Hence, we are taking on a more inquiry/hands-on approach with this unit.  Students are observing, using all of their senses, categorizing, classifying, working collaboratively, as well as carrying out procedures to investigate predictions.  We have had numerous discussions about the effects and examples of water in indoor and outdoor environments, and in living things, including themselves, according to the state of matter.  One major discovery that we found out during our learning experience so far, was that the water that we drink every day is not ‘new’, it’s been recycled – not just once, but thousands of times.  Living in Saskatchewan, we have also discussed the effects of the weather on the farming community. We concluded that farmers like the “Goldilocks approach” as it relates to the weather – they want the weather to be just right for their crops and animals.
